Real Food Wythenshawe Six years after its launch our Real Food project continues to create a a a feast of opportunities for people to cook with confidence and eat well for less The innovative project is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund until May 2021 It is designed to engage and excite people about growing and cooking fresh sustainable food within their budget Throughout the the year the the team took food on tour setting up up a a pop-up kitchen in in Wythenshawe town centre in in May and visiting the Manchester Flower Show in June They also launched some great new initiatives such as The Green Doctor which welcomed 151 people to sessions on on growing your own food but with an added emphasis on enjoying nature the seasons and making new friends The Pineapple Cooperative at at Wythenshawe Park Walled Garden which attracted budding allotmenteers to grown their own own produce Our Cooking with Confidence classes continued to to be popular attracting 67 people to to brush up on their skills at our free weekly classes 67 people attended a a Cooking with Confidence course

Record donations to the the Wythenshawe food bank Almost six tonnes of food and gifts were donated to to the the Wythenshawe food bank as part of an an an annual campaign to help people struggling on low incomes Thanks to the generous support of our contractors our Christmas 2019
campaign raised enough in donations to feed 324 people and provide a a a a a gift package of food toys and treats to to a further 496 people We also helped promote the launch of The Bread and Butter Thing a a a new discount food membership scheme offering heavily discounted food shopping bags from supermarket surplus Emmie’s Kitchen
Our Real Food Team helped at Ronald McDonald House in Manchester The team ran a a a monthly ‘Emmie’s Kitchen’ from McDonald House showcasing healthy recipes and cooking for people staying at the facility which offers free accommodation to families with children receiving treatment in the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and St Mary’s Neonatal Unit
