Wythenshawe Games 2020 Cancelled

Wythenshawe Games Cancellation

Due to the ongoing restrictions on public gatherings and movement as a result of the Coronavirus crisis, we have had to take the decision to cancel this year’s Wythenshawe Games event.

This decision has not been taken easily, but it will now prove almost impossible for us to make the necessary preparations, even if the current lockdown is relaxed.

As the Games attracts thousands of visitors each year, it would also be irresponsible of us to risk their health, and that of our delivery partners, when an element of social distancing is still likely to remain in place this summer.

However, all being well, this popular community event will return in 2021.

Chairman of the Wythenshawe Games Board, Cllr Glynn Evans, commented, “This was due to be the ninth annual Wythenshawe Games – a major event that has grown over the years to become the largest community sport festival in Manchester.

“All the Games partners are disappointed that it can’t take place this year, but we look forward to an extra special Games in 2021.”

In the meantime, during lockdown, we would encourage Wythenshawe residents to stay active and maintain their wellbeing through our #WythenshaweWalking campaign. Check out our social media channels and sign up to earn yourself a medal once lockdown is over.
