Wythenshawe Tenant Celebrates his Centenary!
Mr Leonard Marshall, a Wythenshawe Community Housing Group tenant from Crossacres, recently celebrated his 100th birthday with his birthday card from the Queen and a host of visitors popping in to wish him well.
Paula Beeson, Assistant Director of Housing at WCHG called in to congratulate him on this significant milestone and said; “Mr Marshall is a great example to us all. Like lots of families, he moved to Wythenshawe from Hulme in the 1930’s. He has lived here all his adult life and is one of our longest standing and oldest residents. He has lots of wonderful memories and puts his good health down to cycling in his earlier days – and a bit of flirting with the ladies!”
Joining Mr Marshall in his celebrations was Marie Greenhalgh, Manager of The Generation Project in Wythenshawe which provides a range of services for the elderly.
Operating out of Wythenshawe Community Housing Group’s Bowland Road office, the project is a much valued and popular scheme, and one that Mr Marshall appreciates through his regular visits from volunteer Helene, who pops round to chat with him a few times a week.
Mr Marshall said; “I have carers from Care In the Community – a wonderful Charity - who pop in to look after me and I also really look forward to my visits from Helene. She is a great friend and I enjoy our chats. We are working on a memory book together, which is rather wonderful – I was born at the start of the First World War and I also have lots of memories from my time in Napoli during the 2nd World War!”
