Wythenshawe Games Wins Top Accolade at the Manchester Sports Awards 2019
Wythenshawe Community Housing Group are delighted to announce Wythenshawe Games won the #OurManchester Award, for making Manchester a great city to live and work, at the prestigious Manchester Sports Awards, held on the 19th October at the Hilton, Deansgate.
Now in its 8th year, Wythenshawe Games, is Greater Manchester’s biggest community sport and physical activity festival, and is firmly established as one of the community highlights of the year taking place in the beautiful surroundings of Wythenshawe Park.
Wythenshawe Games was launched in 2012 as part of the legacy of the London Olympics and is a partnership between Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG), Manchester City Council, Wythenshawe Forum and Pride Sports.
This summer over 20,000 people participated in sport and physical activity, with many more visiting the event. Over 3,000 children under the age of 5 participated in active play throughout the 5 days, with busiest day being the ‘This Girl Can day’, with 6,470 participants.
1557 people visited stalls in the Health Zone, with over 300 people taking part in our extra wellbeing activities (colouring, drawing and games) over the 5 days.
The Sports Awards recognise the achievements and dedication towards physical activity and sport across Manchester and shines a light on those community champions who have gone the extra mile to deliver sporting excellence.
Organiser Lou Englefield from Pride Sports said, “It is a privilege to work on Wythenshawe Games. The fantastic feedback we get from local people is so motivating. We will continually strive to improve the Games year on year”.
WCHG Group Chief Executive Nick Horne said, “A brilliant and well deserved win, congratulations to everyone involved in making the Wythenshawe Games such a fantastic event and a shining example of what can be achieved through partnership working”.
