Wythenshawe Community Housing Group supports local food banks
Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. This winter, and especially over Christmas, thousands of people across the UK are turning to food banks for support and Wythenshawe is sadly no exception.
There are families in Wythenshawe who are struggling to put food on the table this Christmas. Wythenshawe Community Housing Group has a number of volunteers from across the business who have been working with local food banks, with weekly collections of food in the lead up to Christmas for the people most in need.
WCHG has done two things to ensure those most in need have access to emergency food this Christmas:
1. Staff from across six sites in Wythenshawe has been collecting food. 1,000 individuals items have been donated to Tree of Life for onward donation to individuals and food banks in Wythenshawe.
2. Working with food banks across Wythenshawe, the Housing Group has donated 400 food bags, each bag feeds a family of four and includes a chicken and ingredients for Christmas dinner. The food will benefit more than 1,600 people!
We’d like to thank everyone who has donated and wish tenants and residents a Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year!
