‘Open Doors’ Weekend at Village 135!
As part of the national ‘Open Doors’ weekend (6-7th March 2015) that sees construction groups opening their doors to interesting sites, Wythenshawe Community Housing Group and their contractor, Galliford Try, welcomed Wythenshawe MP Mike Kane and local students to Village 135, WGHG’s £20 million Extra Care scheme which is scheduled to open in spring 2016.
The ‘Open Door’s’ weekend is a national initiative run by the construction industry to promote careers within construction. By opening their doors to interesting sites it gives students a unique opportunity to have a behind the scenes look at major construction sites across the country and wide range of opportunities and careers on offer – from archaeology, design and engineering to community legacy and history.
Students from The Stockport College, The Manchester College and North Cestrian Grammar School took up the exciting offer to visit Village 135, WCHG’s landmark Extra Care Housing Scheme for older people.
Village 135 will provide 135 homes for older people (66 for affordable rent, 39 for shared ownership and 30 for sale) in a communal setting that includes a salon, bistro and roof terrace and a 24-hour extra care team on site to enable people to maintain their independence .
