Work starts in Wythenshawe on WCHG’s greenest housing development to date
Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG) has started work on its greenest housing development to date. The 65-week programme will see 56 new homes built, on the former Manchester City Council owned Glendene Assessment Centre site, on Greenbrow Road in Wythenshawe.
The £9.2m mixed tenure development, supported by £2.13m of Homes England funding, will consist of 34 affordable rent and 22 shared ownership units; a mix of 2, 3 and 4 bedroomed homes and six bungalows, two of which will be designed specifically for wheelchair users. 48 of the units will be semi-detached and eight detached.
Each thoughtfully designed home will include air source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels and electric vehicle charging points (EVP), making them the most sustainable homes we have built with the lowest carbon footprints.
In consultation with our contractors P Casey & Co, the demolition phase is now underway with properties expected to be completed and ready to move into from Autumn 2023. The show home is planned to open in Summer 2023.
