TPAS Award for Wythenshawe Community Housing Group’s Young Tenant of the Year
Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG) is delighted to announce that Faye Greaves, a young volunteer from Northern Moor, Wythenshawe, has been declared the winner of the regional finals in the Young Tenant of the Year category at this year's Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) awards.
Faye, who is only 16 years of age, is an active volunteer in a wide range of local projects. She is the youngest member of her Tenants and Residents Association and is already an integral member of Wythenshawe Community Housing Group's Youth Panel and an active member of Woodville Youth Centre. Faye gives up her free time to volunteer at a local charity shop, furniture recycling scheme and food bank.
During her time at the food bank Faye has been able to introduce new and improved processes that have ensured that the food is distributed fairly and appropriately and that as many people as possible are able to benefit from the facility. She also helped the centre feed 695 families last Christmas with the distribution of hampers that contained all the ingredients needed for a Christmas lunch.
Faye recently beat off stiff competition to successfully gain a 12 month Futures Placement with Wythenshawe Community Housing Group. She is already proving to be a great addition to the Employment Team and her unique experience means that she is a fantastic role model for other young people in the area.
This summer Faye is planning to visit India where she will further enhance her volunteering experience by teaching the most needy and vulnerable of children. She is nervous, excited and enthusiastic all at the same time and is hoping that this will be a wonderful opportunity to provide meaningful support to those that need it most.
Nigel Wilson, Group chief Executive of WCHG said; "Faye really is an exceptional role model for young people and her award is a well-deserved tribute to that. We are delighted that we have been able to offer her a 12 month placement on our Futures Team and we have no doubt that, with her positive attitude, maturity and ability to engage with people of all ages, Faye will get the very best out of this experience."
The Group, which is made up of Willow Park and Parkway Green Housing Trusts, was also shortlisted in 3 other categories - Excellence in Co-regulation; Tenant Involvement Officer of the Year and Tenant of the Year.
Eddy Newman, Chair of WCHG said, "We were delighted to be so well represented in this year's regional TPAS finals and congratulate all our nominees for their achievements. And, of course, we want to wish Faye all the very best of luck as she goes forward to the National Final in July."
