Tenants Conference 2014
Wythenshawe Community Housing Group held its Tenants’ Conference at Wythenshawe Forum on Thursday, 6th November 2014.
This was the 2nd conference since the formation of the Group Structure between Willow Park and Parkway Green back in April 2013. Around 250 attendees enjoyed an action packed agenda to get tenants’ views on ‘Shaping Our Neighbourhoods’.
The Master of Ceremonies was Councillor Glyn Evans and activities included a “WCHG chat show” and “Question Time” with senior management and staff, a powerful drama about the devastating effects of borrowing from loan shark lenders and an interactive consultation survey to find out tenants’ priorities for ‘shaping our neighbourhoods’.
Once again, the highlight of the event was the Community Awards, to celebrate the fantastic work that our tenants and residents do, which also included the Garden competition winners and the Scarecrow competition.
Councillor Susan Cooley, Lord Mayor of Manchester came along to present the prizes and Wyn Goggins, wife of the late Paul Goggins MP, was guest of honour to present The Paul Goggins Lifetime Achievement Award.
Eddy Newman, Chair of WCHG said, “Since the formation of the Group we have celebrated many achievements, including last year’s Tenant Conference. These conferences give us the opportunity to celebrate all the hard work that our tenants do with our Involvement Team and also will give us a chance to get your views on how we can work together to make our neighbourhoods even better places to live and work, so thank you for taking time out to come along and give us your views today.”
Nigel Wilson, Group Chief Executive of WCHG thanked everyone for coming along to the event. He said, “It’s really important for us to ensure that our tenants are involved in scrutinising the work of WCHG. Keeping tenants at the heart of our work is a core commitment so we are delighted that you have had this opportunity to ask some questions and give us your feedback so that we continue to provide you with an excellent service that meets your needs.”
Dean Slavin, WCHG Involvement Manager said, “It was a great day for the Group and we would like to say a big thank you to all those who came to the event. I would like to pay a special thanks to our wonderful Community Angels who led on organising the whole event!”
