Spud Club launch at St Francis on Saturday 27th June!
The Newlife Community Centre is officially launching Spud Club on Saturday 27th June between 11am and 3pm. The Saturday launch includes plant stalls, cooking demonstration from top local chef Anthony Westwood, face painting, bouncy castle, raffle, BBQ and lots of tasty refreshments!
Come and find out about our exciting plans and what else the centre has to offer.
Based on the St Francis Church site on Greenbrow Road, Spud Club is a fabulous new growing opportunity, in partnership with Real Food Wythenshawe and Red Rose Forest. The vision for Spud Club is to transform the tired existing communal space into a vibrant community growing allotment that will allow local people to grow their own produce.
The Newlife Centre will also be offering cooking sessions along with many other ‘food related’ activities in the near future. Learn how to grow fruit and vegetables, enjoy good company, have fun and get healthy doing it! Everyone is welcome. If you are already experienced growers come and share your skills on a valuable community project.
Your time and expertise will be greatly appreciated! There will be good access with raised beds, container planting, a polytunnel and a range of fruit trees. Local volunteers will be on hand to help supervise the allotment site and provide advice where necessary. Funding for the ‘Spud Club’ has been provided by the Big Lottery’s Communities Living Sustainably Fund, Wythenshawe Community Housing Group and the European Union’s INTERREG IVB fund as part of the VALUE+ project.
