Real Food @ the Manchester Flower Show 2019
Wythenshawe Community Housing Group’s (WCHG) Real Food project was delighted to take part in this year’s Manchester Flower Show.
The team created an edible bedroom as part of the ‘King Street Festival’ which took place over the weekend of the 1st/2nd June and the theme of their pop up park was ‘The Summer of Love’.
Real Food Wythenshawe, is a programme to engage and excite the local community and beyond in growing and cooking fresh, sustainable food. It’s an ambitious project that aims to reach people across the whole community, supporting people to lead healthier, happier lives, in particular those members of the community who are amongst the most socially and economically excluded.
Last year they won the ‘Best Pocket Garden’ at the event and have also won awards at some of the region’s major flower shows including gold at the prestigious RHS Tatton Flower show, Dig the City Manchester and The Manchester Science Festival.
Interim Group Chief Executive Kevin Lowry said, “We are immensely proud of the Real Food Team and all the fantastic hard work they do helping to fly the flag for Wythenshawe across Manchester. I would like to convey a huge thank you to all the team for all their efforts, the past and present awards attributed to them is a testament to their commitment in encouraging people to “Cook it, Grow it, Eat it”
Real Food Project Manager Jacqueline Naraynsingh said, “Thank you to all the Real Food growing volunteers & of course Kay, Ingrid, David, Sandra and Liz, for 6 months of hard work in the planning, growing & making of our very own edible bedroom. We were so proud of our beautiful garden and our very own edible bedroom which was all grown from seeds. It’s always a fantastic event and we will definitely be back next year”
