Real Food at the Mayfield Project
Real Food Wythenshawe are delighted to be involved in The Mayfield Partnership – a group of five community groups who have come together to create a community space in Manchester city centre.
The Green Health Alliance (GHA) is made up of five organisations from across Manchester. They are
- Real Food Wythenshawe (RFW),
- Growing in the City/Men’s Shed Project (GITC),
- Hulme Community Garden Centre (HCGC),
- Debdale Eco Centre (DEC)
- Debdale Green Fingers.
These organisations are committed to working with some of the most vulnerable communities across Manchester, connecting people and places to nature and improving health and mental wellbeing.
The Mayfield garden areas will feature roof-top gardens; reclaimed planters, an allotments area, and will be tended by volunteers under the guidance of the GHA.
WCHG Executive Director of Housing Jacque Allen said, “Great things can be achieved through Partnership working and I’m delighted that the Real Food Team are involved in this project. I can’t wait to visit the site myself”.
The Alliance aim to achieve a series of outcomes with the volunteers including: increasing self- confidence and self-esteem, reducing social isolation, reducing anxiety and depression, developing new life skills while building new friendships around shared experiences, and increasing knowledge about gardening, healthy eating, growing food and physical activity.
