Wythenshawe Community Housing Group support Homes for Britain Campaign

Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG) is supporting the Homes for Britain Campaign, which in the run up to the General Election is calling on all political parties to commit to ‘end the housing crisis within a generation’.

This campaign is providing a united voice for housing and includes organisations from every corner of the housing world - from private developers to homelessness campaigners, from social housing providers to private landlords – to ensure that housing is a major theme in the run up to the General Election.

Nigel Wilson, Group Chief Executive at Wythenshawe Community Housing Group, said; “Housing in Britain is at crisis point and it needs to be at the centre of discussions.  At the last election it was barely mentioned and this time Housing organisations are united in their aim to bring these issues to the forefront of political debate. The need for decent housing has never been more urgent.  We want to ‘end the housing crisis within a generation’ because it affects real people - our children and their futures – and we want to see proper debate across the political spectrum about how to solve the housing crisis.”

WCHG staff and tenants, who have been signing the petition that was launched at their Tenant Conference in November, are also planning to support the ‘Homes for Britain’ rally which will take place on the 17th March at Westminster.  This will be the biggest housing rally in recent times and will bring thousands of people together to call for ‘an end to the housing crisis within a generation’.

After the election, the National Housing Federation will present the new government with a detailed plan for ending the crisis. It will focus on the vital role of housing associations and will build upon the ideas in the Federation’s vision for the future.

The Homes for Britain coalition includes organisations representing every corner of the housing world. It is led by:

  • National Housing Federation
  • Chartered Institute of Housing
  • Crisis
  • Home Builders Federation
  • National House Building Council
  • The Royal Institute of British Architects
  • Residential Landlords Association
  • The Royal Town Planning Institute

It is also supported by organisations including Shelter, the Local Government Association and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
