Faulty Tumble Dryer Warning Message
One tumble dryer bursts into flames EVERY DAY making them Britain's second-biggest cause of house fires – but millions of faulty models still haven't been recalled
Tumble dryers are Britain’s second-biggest cause of house fires, with one bursting into flames almost every day.
Fire brigades across the country were called to 926 tumble dryer fires between 2011 and 2013, amounting to 309 each year – but millions of faulty models still have not been recalled.
The findings in Freedom of Information data follow a national safety recall covering millions of tumble dryers sold under the popular Indesit, Hotpoint and Creda brands.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO STAY SAFE:
Wythenshawe Community Housing Group wants you to make sure you are safe in your property and advises that you check your dryer by clicking on this following link.
You can use a model checker at https://safety.hotpoint.eu/ or https://safety.indesit.eu/ - and then ask for a free modification if it is an affected dryer.
Whirlpool, which owns the Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda brands, believes about five million dryer models sold in Britain since 2004 are at risk of malfunctioning.
It says a ‘substantial number’ have now been replaced or taken out of service. But the firm urges all owners of their dryers built between April 2004 and October 2015 to check if their model is affected.
REMEMBER; always leave your dryer switched off at the socket when not in use and ensure the filter is kept clean by removing any build up of fluff after use,
