Covid booster programme in Manchester
On Sunday 12 December the Government announced that all over 18s who had their second Covid vaccination more than three months ago are now able to have their Covid-19 booster.
Public Health Manchester and Manchester City Council (MCC) have asked for community leaders and neighbourhood organisations, such as ourselves at WCHG, to help spread this message throughout the wider community.
As part of this drive, a free dedicated helpline for anyone who has potential questions or concerns about the booster has been set up.
It’s open seven days a week, 9am to 5pm, on 0800 840 3858 or by texting 07890 036892, and has a full translation service.
Some of the key messages of this campaign are:
- Vaccines save lives and it is never too late to come forward to have one and start getting the protection that they can give.
- If you have been vaccinated, it’s normal for that immunity to reduce over time.
- At the moment we know that two doses of the vaccine are not enough protection against the Omicron variant. But the good news is that the boosters are very effective in bringing that protection back to help prevent severe illness and death.
- That’s why vaccines are still our best defence against Covid-19 and its variants.
If you have concerns or questions then get in touch with the helpline. There is also more information available on MCC website here.
